SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT INVOKES MANDATE IN ONIGAMING FIRST NATION

ONIGAMING FIRST NATION, ON – Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following an investigation in Onigaming First Nation.

On Sunday, June 8, 2025, shortly before 6:00 a.m., members of the Treaty Three Police Service (T3PS) responded to reports of an assault in Onigaming First Nation. As part of the police response, T3PS requested assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit.

During an interaction, one officer discharged a less-lethal device.

The OPP has notified the SIU of the incident, which has invoked its mandate. As a result, the OPP will not be able to provide further information. Any other inquiries should be directed to siu.media@ontario.ca.
