Red Lake District Fire Number 066, started on August 10 and challenged firefighting resources. FireRangers have circled the fire with hose line but it is still listed as not under control at 10 hectares. Constant air attack from Ontario, with assistance from Manitoba, and helicopter bucketing helped stop the fire from advancing to homes and fuel tanks.

SANDY LAKE FN – Evacuation Order is in effect for Sandy Lake First Nation as Wildfire Red Lake 12 rages to the south of the community and is continues to spread North toward the First Nation community.

Fire officials with the Ministry of Natural Resources say that the fire which is not under control is on the west arm of Sandy Lake.

Residents were asked earlier today to go to the southeast corner of Sandy Lake and will be first evacuated by water.
