Attempted Theft of Police Cruiser Leads to Arrest on Tupper Street

THUNDER BAY – June 6, 2025 — A Thunder Bay man is in custody after attempting to steal a police cruiser while officers were conducting an unrelated investigation on Tupper Street.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, June 5, when Thunder Bay Police Service officers were actively working at a scene near Tupper Street. During the investigation, an officer observed an adult male approach an unmarked police vehicle.

The officer advised the man that the road was closed and instructed him to go around. However, rather than complying, the man opened the door of the cruiser, entered the driver’s seat, and attempted to take control of the vehicle.

The officer immediately intervened, removing the suspect from the vehicle. With support from a second officer at the scene, the suspect was taken into custody.

The individual was identified as Jared GESIC, 32, of Thunder Bay. He is now facing several charges under the Criminal Code of Canada, including:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle

  • Assaulting a Peace Officer

  • Resisting Arrest

  • Failing to Comply with a Probation Order

GESIC appeared in bail court on Friday, June 6, and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
