NORTHEAST REGION — Ontario’s Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services is reporting one new wildland fire in the Northeast Region as of Sunday, June 1, with fire crews remaining on high alert across the district.


🔥 New Fire Confirmed – Cochrane 5

The latest fire, Cochrane 5 (COC005), was confirmed Sunday afternoon and is currently not under control. The fire spans 2.8 hectares and is located approximately 6 kilometres west of Hearst, adjacent to Highway 11. Crews are actively engaged in initial attack operations, supported by aerial suppression efforts.


🔥 Active Fires in the Northeast

There are currently three active wildland fires burning in the Northeast Region:

  • 1 fire is under control

  • 2 fires remain not under control, including Cochrane 5


🔥 Fire Hazard Conditions

The fire hazard across the Northeast Region ranges from low to high, depending on local weather and fuel conditions. Residents and travelers are encouraged to regularly check Ontario’s Interactive Fire Map for real-time updates and local fire hazard ratings.


🚫 No Drone Zone

Flying drones near forest fires is dangerous and illegal.
Drones can interfere with firefighting aircraft and put emergency personnel at risk. Always stay clear of active wildfires and adhere to airspace restrictions.


🔥 Follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations

Residents are reminded to exercise extreme caution when conducting any outdoor burning:

  • Composting or taking yard waste to a landfill is recommended over burning.

  • If burning is necessary, fires must be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise.

  • Always have adequate tools and water on hand to contain the fire.
