AFFES Encourages Caution with Outdoor Burning and Reminds Public of No-Drone Zone Around Wildfires

NORTHEAST FIRE REGION – WILDFIRE UPDATE | May 23, 2025 – 17:30 EDTAviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services (AFFES) reports a quiet day on the wildfire front in the Northeast Region, with no new fires confirmed and no active wildland fires currently burning.

This welcome update reflects continued low fire activity in the region, supported by favourable weather conditions and public compliance with safety measures.

🔥 Fire Hazard Level: Low

The fire hazard remains low throughout the Northeast Region, though residents are reminded to stay aware of changing conditions. For the most current local fire hazard information, visit Ontario’s Interactive Fire Map.

No Drone Zone Reminder

AFFES emphasizes that flying drones near forest fires is both dangerous and illegal. Unauthorized drone flights put the lives of firefighters, pilots, and emergency personnel at risk.

🚫 Stay clear. Stay safe. Keep drones grounded.

Outdoor Burning: Know the Rules

As spring cleanup continues across the region, AFFES reminds the public to exercise caution when burning yard waste or debris. Preferred disposal methods include:

  • Composting

  • Municipal landfills or yard waste sites

If burning is necessary, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations, which include:

  • Fires must be lit no sooner than two hours before sunset

  • Fires must be fully extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise

  • Keep water and firefighting tools at hand

  • Never leave a fire unattended
