Easter Sunday Closures Across the City

Thunder Bay residents weekend as many businesses and services will be closed in observance of one of the most significant days on the Christian calendar.

Large retailers in the Intercity area—including Home Depot, Michaels, Walmart, and Canadian Tire—are closed for the day. The Intercity Shopping Centre is also shuttered for the holiday.

In keeping with Ontario regulations, stores over 280 square metres are not permitted to open on Easter Sunday.

Essential Services and Grocery Options
Banks, municipal offices, the LCBO, Beer Store, libraries, and city-run recreation centres are also closed. Thunder Bay Transit will be running on a holiday schedule both Sunday and Good Friday.

Need a few last-minute groceries? You still have a few local options. Skaf’s in Current River (470 Hodder Avenue) remains open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Open Convenience Stores and Pharmacies
For other essentials, Circle K locations across the city are open, along with Shoppers Drug Mart stores.

Good Friday Highlights and Hours
On Good Friday, April 18, most major stores and malls, including the LCBO and Beer Store, are also closed.

However, George’s Market on River Street and Skaf’s are open for those who need to pick up groceries.

Don’t miss the Holiday Market at The Hub (507 Victoria Avenue East) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—a great opportunity to shop local and find some unique Easter weekend deals.

Dining and Local Favorites
If you’re planning to dine out this weekend, it’s best to call ahead. Many local eateries, including Bay Village Coffee and Nippers Takeout, are taking a break for the holiday weekend.

Emergency Services Remain Operational
Thunder Bay Police Service and Thunder Bay Fire Rescue will continue to operate as usual throughout the weekend—though we all hope their services won’t be needed.
