Kasabonika First Nation Man Faces Multiple Charges, Including Impaired Driving and Robbery
SIOUX LOOKOUT, ON – A dramatic series of events unfolded in Sioux Lookout on the evening of January 30, 2025, leading to the arrest of a 26-year-old suspect following a robbery, vehicle theft, and impaired driving incident.
Incident Overview
Shortly before 8:00 p.m., officers from the Sioux Lookout Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a disturbance at a local grocery store. The suspect attempted to steal items before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle.
A short time later, OPP officers were called to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 72, where they discovered the stolen vehicle involved in the crash. Through investigation, it was determined that the driver was impaired by alcohol and drugs.
The suspect was arrested on scene and transported to the Dryden OPP Detachment for further testing.
Charges Laid
As a result of the investigation, Gideon ANDERSON, 26, of Kasabonika First Nation, has been charged with the following offenses under the Criminal Code of Canada:
- Dangerous Operation (Section 320.13)
- Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs (Section 320.14)
- Robbery With Violence (Section 344)
- Theft of Motor Vehicle – Two Counts (Section 333.1)
Legal Proceedings
The accused was held for a bail hearing and has been remanded to the Kenora District Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on February 4, 2025.
