Winnipeg Man Charged with Second Degree Murder in Fatal Stabbing

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg Police have laid charges in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred last week.

On the evening of November 7th, 2024, officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1800 block of Ellice Avenue. They arrived to find a 47-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries.

Despite receiving emergency medical care, the victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has now been identified as Jeremy Norton Flett, a member of St. Theresa Point First Nation who resided in Winnipeg.

Charges and Potential Penalties:

42-year-old David Justin Knott of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Second Degree Murder: This charge relates to an intentional killing that is not planned or deliberate. If convicted, Knott faces an automatic life sentence with a minimum parole eligibility of 10 years.
  • Fail to Comply with Conditions of a Release Order x 2: This charge indicates that Knott was previously released under specific conditions, which he allegedly violated. This can lead to further penalties in addition to those for the murder charge.

Presumption of Innocence:

It is important to remember that David Justin Knott is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Knott has been detained in custody.
