Two individuals were taken into custody following a routine traffic stop by the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Calder Township, ON. The stop, which occurred on March 11, 2024, shortly before 8:00 p.m., was initially conducted due to the vehicle’s lack of rear lighting.

This seemingly minor infraction on Highway 11 between Cochrane and Smooth Rock Falls quickly escalated into a significant drug enforcement operation.

Upon investigation, the OPP discovered illicit substances within the vehicle, leading to the arrest of both occupants. The search yielded methamphetamine tablets, cannabis resin, also known as hash, along with bear spray, a large kitchen knife, and a sum of Canadian currency.

The total value of the seized items is estimated at $1700, highlighting the serious nature of the offences.

Jonathan FORGER-HOTTE, a 29-year-old from Mont Laurier, QC, faces several charges, including trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking methamphetamines, possession of a prohibited device for a dangerous purpose, violation of a prohibition order on prohibited weapons, possession of cannabis with intent to distribute, and failure to comply with a probation order.

Frederic PRIVE, aged 32 from Saint Colomban, QC, is also facing charges related to drug trafficking and possession, in addition to vehicular offenses such as driving with cannabis readily available, driving without proper rear lights, and obstructed views.

Both accused individuals have been released and are scheduled to make their court appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on April 9, 2024. This incident serves as a reminder of the continuous efforts by police to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety on our roads.
