THUNDER BAY – ROADS Update – Highway 17, the Trans-Canada Highway is closed near Vermilion Bay.

Water is over the road. The Ministry of Transportation first closed the highway last night, but say that they are allowing vehicles through, but asking for caution.

Highway 105 – Red Lake Road Closures

Update: 10:00 AM CDT: Highway 105 remains closed.

MTO crews are working diligently to address the compromised road at Caribou Creek.
Highway 105 at Buller Creek also remains closed.

A detour is available through Highway 609/Quibell route, but motorists should proceed with caution on this route.


The Town of Red Lake says, “There is a new washout on highway 599 about 10 km out of town. It has been confirmed that the highway is closed and that MTO is enroute to the washout”.

“The Community Hall will be reopened for anyone in need of a place to await the reopening. The Provincial Emergency Centre has been notified, and OPP is on scene.

“Please do not attempt to leave town until the road closure notices has been rescinded”.
