FORT FRANCES – NEWS – The flood warning first issued on April 28, 2022 for the Fort Frances District was extended Thursday to remain in effect until Friday, May 13, 2022 until 5:00 PM.

Residents in Atikokan, Fort Frances, Mine Centre, Emo and Rainy River as well as surround areas in the Fort Frances District should continue to watch both local water conditions as well as weather forecasts.

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry are continuing to monitor the situation.

Water levels have continued to rise to record levels over the course of the week, according to the Ministry. This is due to the day-time temperatures which have been rising through the past week, resulting in greater snow melt, and surface runoff.

There is a low-pressure system being monitored that is heading into the region and could bring additional precipitation in the form of rainfall.

There is the potential for that system to stall in the region and bring up to 30mm of rain early into next week.
