THUNDER BAY – Shelby Ch’ng has been appointed the Ontario Liberal candidate in Thunder Bay—Superior North.

“As a small business owner and city councillor who has lived in Thunder Bay her entire life, Shelby understands how important infrastructure, community engagement, and economic development are across Northern Ontario,” said Steven Del Duca. “Shelby was a key contributor to the rebuilding of Thunder Bay’s South Core – so she’ll be a fierce advocate for Thunder Bay at Queen’s Park.”

Ch’ng currently represents Northwood ward on Thunder Bay city council and holds a degree in political science from Lakehead University. She was first elected in 2014 and re-elected in 2018.

The Liberals say, “Ch’ng owned Unveiled Bridal, a retail shop in Thunder Bay’s Southcore. She worked as a Strategic Advisor to the Grand Chief for the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, and currently serves as the Education Partnership Program Liaison at Matawa Education and Care Centre. She is an honorary Lieutenant Colonel for the 38 Service Battalion and a passionate supporter of her local theatre”.

“Thunder Bay is where I’ve lived, worked, and served my entire life,” said Ch’ng. “It’s a diverse, vibrant city with the brightest of futures. I want to continue playing a part in shaping the future of this city I love so much – and so I’m honoured to have this new opportunity to serve my community as their representative at Queen’s Park.”

The Progressive Conservative candidate is Thunder Bay Councillor Peng You and the New Democrats are running Lise Vaugeois.

Peng You has taken a leave from Council for the campaign.

It is expected that Ch’ng who was just appointed to the Thunder Bay Police Services Board will be doing the same.
