Thunder Bay Police Charge Denis Terry Bernard with Midtown Inn Murder

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police Service officers have arrested a 36-year-old local man and charged him with Second-Degree Murder in connection with an ongoing homicide investigation.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a 29-year-old male, now identified as Paul Winnifred VIVIER, 29, of Victoria, BC, at the Midtown Inn at 61 Cumberland Street North.

Officers were originally dispatched to that address around 10:20 pm on Saturday, May 30.

Police arrived and located the victim. Paramedics with Superior North EMS transported him to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre where he was pronounced deceased.

As a result of their ongoing investigation members of the TBPS’s Major Crimes Unit arrested and charged Denis Terry Bernard, 36, of Thunder Bay, on Sunday, May 31, 2020.

The accused and victim were known to one another.

The accused appeared in bail court on Monday, June 1 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of Tuesday, June 9, 2020.

A post-mortem examination of the victim has been scheduled to take place on Monday, June 1, in Thunder Bay.

A police presence remains in the area of the Midtown Inn where the scene is being held.
