Traffic Stop of Stolen Vehicle Results in Impaired Charge

THUNDER BAY – Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. An observant Thunder Bay Police Service Traffic Unit officer noticed a vehicle reported as stolen driving southbound on Fort William Road just before 8:30 am on Wednesday, July 3.

As a result the officer initiated a traffic stop on Fort William Road near 11th Avenue.

The 24-year-old female driving the stolen Jeep SUV was arrested at the scene without incident.

The officer noticed signs that the driver might be impaired.

The driver was transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters where a breath sample determined her blood alcohol concentration to be about twice the legal limit.

An investigation also revealed she was a suspended driver.

The 24-year-old Thunder Bay woman faces charges of Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000.

She is expected to appear in court Thursday, July 4.
