Empire Street Fire Knocked Down by TBFR

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Pumper

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire & Rescue (TBFR) responded to a structural fire in a residential building in the 300 Block Empire Street.  around noon Friday.

Light smoke was visible, coming out of the main door on arrival. The fire was located in a room in the basement.

Firefighters were able to quickly bring the fire under control, with total extinguishment a short time later.

Luckily the door was closed and contained most of the damage within.

Two occupants, who were in the home at the time, were place in care of paramedics who transported them to the hospital as a precaution.

2 dogs and 2 cats were in the home at the time, 1 cat did not survive.

Cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.

A total of 5 Pumper trucks, 1 Aerial Ladder truck and 1 Command Unit responded to bring this fire under control.
