THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – TBGA had an outstanding performance at an international meet in Fargo, ND on March 8-10th. TBGA had both their Men’s and Women’s teams competing against teams from across the USA and from Winnipeg and Calgary. 

Xcel Team Highlights: Our Xcel Gold Team came in Second Place in the Team Awards against 8 other Teams! Nyla Pekki came in 5th on Vault winning a special award for her fantastic presentation! Nina Mazur came in 5th on Bars with a clean routine. Leah Boczek came in 6th on floor, dancing with grace. Sophie Verescak improved tremendously placing 6th on Vault and Bars and 4th on Floor. Emily Harris saw some great score improvements! Kali Zawadzki came in 2nd all around landing on the podium twice (1st on Vault and 2nd on Floor). Hanna Myers improved her scores, earning a 9.0 on Vault and 5th on Bars. Kaylee Witiluk came in 4thall around staying in the top 8 on all 4 events. Claire Dubinsky bravely attempted new skills earning her a 4th on Floor and a 3rd on Vault.

JO 4 Team Highlights: Our Level 4 athletes had some steep competition. They were against 86 other athletes all aiming for State Championships! Mya Fell had a great vault finishing 59/86 with an 8.25. Milla Goodman came in 48/84 all around with a strong score of 8.925 on Floor. Kayla Slusar performed solidly on beam landing 40/86 with a 8.450. Mikalah Pasqualino pushed through the pack scoring 26/86 on vault with a score of 8.6 and Leanna Eade landed 25/86 on Beam with a strong 8.850.

JO 6-8 Team Highlights: Phoenix Debrusk had a strong meet coming in 6th on Floor. Rebecca Lemieux had a clean meet landing 7th on Floor. Rhea Scollie came in 6th all around, landing in the top 8 on every event with a 3rd place on Floor. Alyssa Sullivan had a solid meet, coming in 1st on Bars, 6th on Floor and 6th all around. Jacey Witiluk had a comeback, after having to miss an event due to injury scoring her highest mark of the meet on her final event. Charlotte Gregory showed a great performance placing 7th on vault 3rd and on Floor. Avery Marshall had an outstanding meet scoring 1st on Vault, 3rd on Bars and 2nd All around. Amber Taylor had one of her highest performing meets in this level landing on the podium 4 times: 3rd on Vault, 2nd on Bars, 3rd on Beam and 3rd All Around.

Men’s Team Highlights: Our Men’s JO Level 6 Team came in First Place in the Team Awards against 4 other teams. Orryn Pudden had his strongest meet yet scoring: 4th of Pommel Horse with a 9.7 and 2nd on High Bar! Adam Wright came out strong scoring a high 8.7 on Vault and an 8.6 on Pommel Horse. Matthew Armstrong came in 6th all around with a 2nd place on floor. David Harris came in 5th all around, landing on the podium 3 times (3rd on Parallel Bars & Vault and 1ston Rings!). Mitchell Fell came in 1st all around landing on the podium on 4 out of the 6 events (1st on Parallel Bars & Vault).

Coach Highlights: 2 of our coaches participated in the Xcel meet with only 1 month of training. Kelvi Toskovich came in 3rd all around, (2nd Vault, 6th Bars, 1stBeam, 3rd Floor). Ashley Wright came in 1st all around (3rd Vault, 2nd Bars, 2nd Beam, 4th Floor).

Congratulations team for a job well done! Upcoming meets: Men’s Team will be in Vaughan, ON on May 10th and the JO Levels 4-8 will be in Concord, Ontario on May 17 to 19th.
