Ice Breaking Efforts Underway in Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY – Coast Guard Icebreaking operations are underway for the Port of Thunder Bay.

The Canadian Coast Guard Ship Samuel Risley will be working in area waterways for the next 48 hours or more. CCGS Samuel Risley departed Sault Ste Marie Ontario yesterday (March 21) and travelled through heavy ice conditions in Whitefish Bay.

It is 100 percent covered with ice.

At Whitefish Point the ship travelled through a band of ice where the thickness was estimated six to eight feet.
