First Responders injured in Collision on Highway 102

THUNDER BAY – Additional facts from the Thunder Bay Police Service regarding the accident on Highway 102:

TBPS report, “On March 10th, 2019, at approximately 7:30 pm, Thunder Bay Police, Superior North Emergency Medical Services and Thunder Bay Fire were at the scene of a single motor vehicle collision involving a transport truck which had rolled onto its side on Highway 102 near Law Road.”

Another transport truck, which was eastbound on Highway 102, collided with the ambulance at the scene. At the time of the collision two paramedics, a police officer and the original transport truck driver involved in the collision were inside the ambulance.

The collision forced the ambulance in an eastbound direction striking another police officer and a firefighter who was standing outside the ambulance.

Thankfully all the parties involved in this collision sustained non-life threatening injuries only.

The transport truck driver who collided with the ambulance, a 43-year-old male from Port Coquitlam British Columbia, has been charged with Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act for causing this collision.

Dawson Road was closed for several hours while evidence was gathered at the scene. The roadway has since been reopened.
