THUNDER BAY – WEATHER – There are weather advisories in effect for the far north of the region this morning.

Blowing snow advisory in effect for:

  • Big Trout Lake – Kasabonika
  • Sachigo Lake – Bearskin Lake
  • Fort Severn / Washaho Cree Nation
  • Peawanuck

Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow is expected or occurring in some locations.

Poor visibility in snow and blowing snow beginning this morning.

A strong low-pressure system just northwest of Fort Severn will race out over Hudson Bay, blasting a sharp Arctic cold front across the region this morning. 5 to 10 cm of fresh snow are expected to fall today into tonight, with strong west to northwest winds of 50 gusting to 80 km/h whipping up the freshly fallen snow beginning later this morning and continuing through tonight into Monday.

Hazardous travel conditions from poor visibility in snow and blowing snow are expected to begin early this morning then continue through tonight into Monday. Near blizzard conditions are expected, especially in exposed areas near Hudson Bay.

Conditions will slowly start to improve later on Monday as winds start to diminish and blowing snow eases off.
