OPP have laid a number of charges in a stolen vehicle investigationNIPIGON – On December 11, 2018, members of the Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with officers from the Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and Community Street Crime Unit executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a residence in Lake Helen First Nation, Ontario.

As a result of the search, police seized a quantity of suspected crack cocaine, digital scales, Canadian currency and firearms.

Tristian SAULT, 50 years-old of Lake Helen First Nation, ON has been charged with;

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine.
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance.
  • Careless storage of Firearm.
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

Matthew MCCARTHY, 29 years old of North York, ON has been charged with;

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000.
  • Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm.
  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon.
  • Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition.
  • Possession of Loaded Restricted Firearm.
  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to a Prohibition Order.

Jelaine BENITEZ, 20 years old of Toronto, ON has been charged with;

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000.
  • Unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm.
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
  • Careless storage of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited device or ammunition.
  • Possession of Loaded Restricted Firearm.

All three accused have been remanded into custody pending a future bail hearing.
