KENORA – Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm watch for the Kenora, Red Lake and Grassy Narrows region. As well, Pickle Lake, Mishkeegogaming, Summer Beaver, and many other communities are under the weather advisories.

Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for:

  • Kenora – Grassy Narrows – Whitedog
  • Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls – Morson
  • Pickle Lake – Cat Lake
  • Summer Beaver – Wunnummin Lake – Kingfisher Lake

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing large hail and heavy rain.

The threat for severe thunderstorms will persist into this evening.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts are also possible. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
