Highway 17 Open After Accident – Update August 22, 2018 19:00hrs

DRYDEN – Updated – CLEARED: ROAD CLOSURE: now OPEN between Hwy 72 and Hwy 622

Highway 17 was closed due to an accident earlier this afternoon. The OPP report, “On August 22, 2018, at approximately 11:10 a.m. officers from the Dryden Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 17, Southworth Township, approximately 30 km East of Dryden.”

Dryden Ambulance, Air Ambulance and Wabigoon Volunteer Fire Department attended the scene.

A passenger in the mini-van was pronounced dead at the scene and the two other occupants in the mini-van are being transported for medical attention of unknown injuries. The driver of the SUV is being transported to Thunder Bay for medical treatment of unknown injuries.

The identification of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) unit is attending the scene to conduct their investigation. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

Highway 17 will be closed for an undetermined period of time while the investigation is conducted.
