THUNDER BAY – WILDFIRE – There was one new fire confirmed by the afternoon of Thursday July 5.

  • Sioux Lookout Fire Number 46 has been declared out at 0.1 hectares and was located near Doghole Lake.

Appreciable rain has reduced the fire behaviour on Red Lake Fire Number 38 near North Spirit Lake. Fire crews continue suppression efforts on this fire, working hose lines to bring the fire under control.

Sioux Lookout Fire Number 37 is under control at 200 hectares.

Nipigon Fire Number 24 has been declared out at 55 hectares.

There are currently 31 active fires in the region, 30 of which are under observation, under control, or being held. All fires in the Northwest Region were exhibiting minimal fire behaviour today.

The forest fire hazard is low to moderate across most of the region with an area of high to extreme hazard in the Nipigon District.
