THUNDER BAY – On June 28th, 2018, just prior to 5 pm, Thunder Bay Police were called to the area of the Harbour Expressway between Highway 11/17 and Golf Links Rd for a serious collision that had occurred. Officers attended and the roadway was closed to traffic for several hours while members of the Traffic Unit conducted an investigation.

Thunder Bay Police state that “The investigation has revealed that a Blue Chevrolet Pickup truck was westbound on the Harbour Expressway and rear-ended a Red Pontiac car which was stopped waiting to turn south. The force of the initial collision caused the Blue Pickup truck to veer into the oncoming eastbound lanes of the Harbour Expressway colliding with an eastbound Silver Dodge Pickup truck head-on. Thankfully, this collision only resulted in non-life threatening injuries. Due to the speeds of the vehicles involved in this collision, the injuries could have easily been far worse.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Traffic volumes are expected to increase, higher than normal, throughout the afternoon hours again today due to the long weekend. Police are advising everyone to give themselves extra time and pay attention to their driving to ensure they arrive safely at their destination.
