THUNDER BAY – There were no new fires in the Northwest Region by the late afternoon of June 3.

The number of active fires in the region has been reduced to two.

Red Lake Fire 30, a 3,739 hectare fire which crossed the Manitoba boundary into Ontario on May 22, is under control.

A 0.3 hectare fire, burning on an island near Pikangikum First Nation since May 7, Red Lake Fire 4 remains under observation.

The forest fire hazard is low throughout the Northwest Region with the exception of pockets of moderate hazard in the far north.
