OPP Update – Accident on Highway 102 and Intola Road

OPP have laid a number of charges in a stolen vehicle investigation

THUNDER BAY – On Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at approximately 5:03 pm, officers from the Thunder Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Oliver Paipoonge Fire and Emergency Services and Superior North Emergency Medical Service (EMS) responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 102 and Intola Road.

The driver of a pickup truck was southbound on Intola Road, proceeded onto Highway 102 and collided with a tractor-trailer unit that was eastbound on Highway 102.

The tractor-trailer unit proceeded into the eastbound ditch and rolled onto the driver side of the vehicle. The driver of the tractor-trailer unit was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by firefighters.

The driver of the tractor-trailer unit sustained non-life threatening injuries, the driver of the pickup truck sustained serious injuries, both were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Highway 102 was closed to traffic for approximately 2.5 hours.

The investigation is continuing.
