Shuniah Fire Responds to Accident on Highway 11/17

SHUNIAH – NEWS – At approximately 9:30 pm on Monday, December 18, 2017, Shuniah Fire & Emergency Services (SFES) responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a transport and a car on Highway 11/17 near Mirror Lake.

Upon arrival, fire crews reported that airbags were deployed and that the passenger was stuck in the vehicle and required extrication. Fire crews used hydraulic extrication equipment to free the passenger and bring them to a waiting ambulance with both occupants taken to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Fifteen SFES firefighters, two Pass Lake Firefighters, Ontario Provincial Police, and two Superior North EMS ambulances responded to the call. All SFES units were back in service11:23 pm.3pm.

SFES would like to remind the travelling public to use caution while driving in poor weather conditions and allow for extra time or delay travel until conditions improve.
