Thunder Bay Police laid impaired driving charges

Crackdown on Truckers and Impaired Driving Continues

KAPUSKASING – On October 7, 2017, at approximately 3:40 p.m., officers of the Kapuskasing Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of a traffic complaint involving a tractor-trailer.

Police located the erratic driver on Highway 11 in Moonbeam Township, East of the Village of Moonbeam and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, however, the driver failed to stop for several kilometres.

Once stopped, the investigation revealed that the male driver was impaired.

Alim DHALLA, 50 years of age, from Calgary, Alberta was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood contrary to section 253(1)(b) CC
  • Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) CC
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer contrary to section 249.1(1) CC

>The accused was released on a Recognizance and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on October 30, 2017 to answer to the charges.
