Man in Custody Following Amber Alert

FORT FRANCES – NEWS – On May 20, 2017 members of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a domestic dispute in Chapple Township.

Upon police arrival, OPP officers learned that the suspect had fled the scene in a vehicle in the company of a two-year-old female.

Officers requested an Amber Alert through the OPP Provincial Operations Center (POC). As a result of the Amber Alert, officers received information on the location of the suspect, effected an arrest and located the female is good health.

The Amber Alert was subsequently cancelled.

OPP report that as a result of the investigation conducted, Brad FARAND (37) of Brandon Manitoba is charged criminally with:

  1. 3 counts of Assault;
  2. 1 count of Choking to overcome resistance;
  3. 1 count of mischief;
  4. 1 count of take motor vehicle no consent;and
  5. 1 count of Drive motor vehicle with more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

He was also charged under the Highway Traffic Act with:

  1. Fail to properly wear seat belt; and
  2. Novice driver related offences.

FARAND is being held in custody for Weekend And Statutory Holiday (WASH) court and will appear before a Justice of the Peace via teleconference on May 22, 2017.
