The provincial inquest into the deaths of seven students gets underway in Thunder Bay

THUNDER BAY – Dr. David Eden, Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, today announced that the start date has been changed for the inquest into the death of Cody Thompson-Hardy.

Mr. Thompson-Hardy, 18, died on August 19, 2011 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre following a transfer from the Thunder Bay District Jail. An Inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Thompson-Hardy’s death.

The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last up to five days and to hear from approximately 15 witnesses.

The inquest will now begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at the Ontario Government Building, 189 Red River Road, Thunder Bay. Dr. Michael Wilson will preside as inquest coroner and Dan Mitchell and Nicole Stortini will be counsel to the coroner.
