Homicide Charges Laid in Neebing / McIntyre Floodway Death

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Thunder Bay has another homicide. Thunder Bay Police Service report, “The Criminal Investigations Branch of the TBPS has charged a Thunder Bay man in connection with the death of 38 year old Clayton Chuck MAWAKEESIC. Mr. MAWAKEESIC’s body was discovered on July 29, 2016 in the Neebing/McIntyre Floodway near Waterford Street.

“Mr. MAWAKEESIC had died from drowning.  He had been with a group of people on the shore of the Floodway on the evening of July 28, 2016.  It is alleged that an altercation occurred between the victim and the accused just prior to his death in the water.  The accused and the victim were known to each other.

Thirty-four-year-old Lawrence Peter BEARDY has been charged under section 232 of the Criminal Code with Manslaughter.  He was arrested just after 3:00 p.m. on August 5, 2016 in the vicinity of Carrick and Waterford Streets without incident.

BEARDY has been remanded into custody with a court date of August 8, 2016.
