OPP Arrest Suspect over Border Crossing Incident

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – A forty-six-year old man from Etobicoke Ontario is in custody in Thunder Bay following an incident at the Pigeon River Border Crossing. The Ontario Provincial Police report that on Sunday, January 31st at about 18:40PM EST, officers from the Thunder Bay OPP Detachment were contacted by Canada Border Services Agency about the driver of a Toyota Sienna van what did not stop for a customs inspection at the border station.

The OPP report that officers were able to locate the driver who was travelling north on Highway 61 toward Thunder Bay.

Officers activated their emergency lights, however the driver did not stop. The driver reportedly continued north on Highway 61 and exited the highway onto Boundary Road and then onto Hacquoil Road.

The driver then attempted to evade officers by pulling into a private driveway. He then slide into the ditch, where he was apprehended by officers.

A forty-six-year old man, from Etobicoke, Ontario, has been arrested. He now faces charges of flight while pursued by peace officer, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code.

The suspect was held in custody for a video court appearance, and has been remanded to the Thunder Bay District Jail to await court hearings.
