Inquest into Death of Romeo Wesley Postponed

THUNDER BAY – NEWS – Dr. Michael Wilson, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, today announced that the inquest into the death of Romeo Wesley originally scheduled to begin on June 8, 2015, has been postponed.
The postponement is due to the unavailability of legal counsel representing one of the parties.

Mr. Wesley, aged 34, died on Sept. 9, 2010, while in police custody at the Cat Lake Nursing Station. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Wesley’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest is expected to last two weeks and to hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

Details of the new date of the inquest will be provided as soon as the information becomes available.
