THUNDER BAY – SPORTS – The 5th annual Women on Skis event at the Lappe Nordic Ski Centre is set to take place this Sunday, February 22nd at 10 am. This event is for girls and women ages 13 and older who are interested in improving their cross country ski technique, in a fun and supportive environment, on some of the best ski trails in Canada.

The day includes technical instruction from competent ski instructors in both skating and classical techniques, ski waxing tips, free therapeutic massage, a healthy vegetarian lunch and snacks, exciting draw prizes and an event bag complete with coupons and gifts for each participant. The Women on Skis event is sold out again this year.

This year the organizers are excited to announce guest speaker and instructor for the day Sharon Firth, one of Canada’s greatest Nordic skiers of all time. Sharon is a 4-time Olympian and was a member of the National Ski Team for 17 consecutive years. She and her twin sister Shirley were introduced to the sport through the Territorial Experimental Ski Training (TEST) program for Aboriginal youth.

The Lappe Ski Centre will also be host to the Canadian National Ski Championships in March (see skinationals2015.com for more information about the nationals).
