THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Police report that two men have been charged in connection with a sexual assault involving a 21 year old female victim. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of February 2, 2014 at a West Arthur Street hotel.

The Thunder Bay Police Service became aware of the complaint by way of a third party on February 25, 2014. The charges against the two men came after an extensive investigation by the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Criminal Investigations Branch. Assistance was provided by the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section and the R.C.M.P. – Thunder Bay Detachment. Investigators travelled to Ottawa in March to conduct interviews with members of the University of Ottawa hockey program.

The two men charged with Sexual Assault were players with the University of Ottawa men’s hockey team at the time of the incident. The Ottawa team was in Thunder Bay the weekend of January 31, 2014 to play against Lakehead University in a scheduled O.U.A. division game.

Charged with Sexual Assault – Section 271(1) CC are:
24 year old Guillaume DONOVAN of Gatineau, Quebec
25 year old David FOUCHER of Gatineau, Quebec

The two men were charged in Ottawa this week with the assistance of the Ottawa Police Service. They were released on an undertaking and will appear in court in Thunder Bay on September 30, 2014.
