THUNDER BAY – Ontario Minister of Finance Charles Sousa states that the new Aviation Tax proposed in the Ontario Budget will not impact Northern Communities.

Sousa, speaking after Question Period on Monday stated, “We’ll take mitigation on those communities that are affected by this so we don’t put anybody in harm’s way. We’ll give some exemptions.”

The hike in the fuel tax has been seen as unfair for many northern Ontario communities where high prices for food and other necessities must come in by air.

The measure was included in the Ontario Budget and will see a four cent per litre tax phased in over the next four years.
