SIJHL Showcase Action Continues…

SPOONER, Wis. – A Jonathon Losurdo goal midway through the third period was the decider as the Minnesota Iron Rangers edged the English River Miners 3-2 in day 2 play at the Superior International Junior Hockey League’s Showcase at the Ice House in Spooner, Wis.

English River grabbed the lead after the opening 20 minutes after John Morales finished off the work of Dominic Blouin at 7:57.

A hard-hitting second stanza saw Minnesota notch the equalizer early in the second with Thomas Fazio beating Miners’ netminder P.D. Melgoza.

Morales’ team-leading 22nd tally of the season put English River back on top via the power play as he recorded his 50th point of the campaign at 13:37.

The Iron Rangers answered right back a minute later however as Trevor Hoth deftly redirected in a Matt Audet shot from the right point.

It stayed that way until Losurdo’s game-winner, which gave Minnesota the two points in the contest.

Alex Reichle finished with 32 stops on the afternoon to register the victory with Melgoza facing 39 pucks in a losing cause for English River.

Two more Showcase games go later today with Fort Frances taking on Dryden at 4:30 p.m. while Thunder Bay takes on Wisconsin.
