OPP Closed Highway 17 Fatal Accident

THUNDER BAY – A fatal accident has the Trans Canada Highway closed about 40 kilometres west of Ignace Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police are on scene and have confirmed that there is one person who has died as a result of the accident.

Few details are known at present. Officials with the OPP report that the investigation into the accident are ongoing, and there is no word on when the highway will re-open for travel.

Sources tell NNL that the highway has been in icy condition over the past couple of days.

Travellers will have to find alternate routes. Highway 11 South is open.

The Ministry of Transport reports that highways to the west of Thunder Bay are snow packed.
