NAPS Nishnawbe Police ServiceDEER LAKE FN – On October 18, 2013, at 2:00AM, in the First Nation Territory of Deer Lake, police received a report of gun shots fired in the community.

An investigation continued with the assistance of the NAPS Emergency Response Team. Twenty-two year old Quinton Trevor Meekis of Deer Lake was charged with Careless Use of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

Meekis was placed in custody, and appeared in court in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Deer Lake First Nation is located approximately 725 km northwest of Thunder Bay.
