The highlight of the meet for Lakehead was the women’s 4 X 400m relay where the team of Jess Baraskewich, Vanessa Ivec, Heather Maxfield, and Katie Darcis shattered the school record by over 2s and finished 11th overall, one higher than their ranking heading into the event.

Danielle Thiel also had a solid meet. She came in ranked 11th in the 3000m and finished 9th.  Thiel was in the mix most of the race and looks to come back next year even stronger.

Heather Mafield had an off day in the 600m after a breakout season.  She made up for in in the 4 X 400m relay, running a very fast split and getting the team back in the mix.

Coach Kip Sigsworth commented, “Overall I am pleased with the meet. I was proud of the way the girls competed and stepped up to the challenge in their first taste of national level competition.  All four athletes on the 4 X 400m relay ran their lifetime fastest splits today so we have to be pleased with that.  This weekend was a good step in the right direction but the goal is to use this experience as motivation to come back next season and be at an even higher level.”
