THUNDER BAY – Northern Ontario is a contrast in weather today. In Thunder Bay spring-like conditions with a high of 8c are in the forecast. In the far north, there are storm warnings in effect for Fort Severn, Attawapiskat, Fort Kashechewan, Sandy Lake, and Big Trout Lake.

Environment Canada report, “A weather system over the Prairies will approach Ontario today. This storm will bring significant snowfall to the northern part of the province. A long period of snow continuing until Tuesday is forecast for most regions. Total snowfall amounts are expected to be in the 20 to 30 cm range.

Freezing rain and ice pellets will also affect some regions, from Sandy Lake in the west to Attawapiskat in the east. Additionally, strong winds will develop over regions farther north late in the day and tonight, with widespread blowing snow and poor visibilities expected.
