Thunder Bay Skies Sept 12 2011THUNDER BAY – THUNDER BAY – Updated- 4:10PM Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds and large hail possible this afternoon into this evening in the City of Thunder Bay.

Environment Canada states, “This is an alert to the potential development of severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds or heavy rainfall. A strong cold front ploughing across Northwestern Ontario will trigger thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. There is potential for the thunderstorms to become severe with damaging winds, large hail, torrential downpours and intense lightning possible.

The line of thunderstorms may reach the Lakehead area at Thunder Bay near 6.00 PM.

Environment Canada has issued severe Thunder Storm Warning for Raith, and Upsula. There are Watches in effect, as well, for Atikokan, Shebandowan, and Quetico Park. Conditions are present for adverse weather conditions.

People in the area are advised to keep an eye on the weather and to take necessary safety precautions.

NNL readers are reporting that there is thunder in Westfort. On the Northside of the city, other than darker skies there is no thunder as of 4:10PM.

Skies in the city are showing the effect of smoke from forest fires in the United States, and western Canada.
