QUEEN’S PARK — Today, Ontario Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak says, “It’s clear Dalton McGuinty will say anything to get re-elected as he backtracked on yet another promise to rein in his runaway spending and bureaucratic government bloat”.
“Ontario families will pay more because Dalton McGuinty keeps failing to control his runaway spending, even when spending on bloated executive salaries threatens frontline health care. Ontario families know he can’t be counted on to clean up his own mess,” charges Hudak.
In a media statement, the PCs state, “One of Dalton McGuinty’s key 2011 Budget announcements was a promise to cut executive expenses at Ontario hospitals and major government agencies by 10 percent over two years. Dalton McGuinty even used this promise in his defense of the bloated Sunshine List, which has tripled under his watch to 71,400 employees. Last week, a junior staffer speaking on behalf of Finance Minister Dwight Duncan admitted executives will not face any penalties if they fail to cut their expenses”.
“It’s clear Dalton McGuinty can only be relied on for two things, to increase government spending and to raise taxes to pay for it,” commented Hudak. “I have long called for transparent and accountable measures, such as a Sunset Review, to get government focused on the services that matter most to Ontario families. Families know only an Ontario PC government can get Dalton McGuinty’s runaway spending under control.”
