Trial Against Former Thunder Bay Mayor Underway

THUNDER BAY – The trial against Keith and Marisa Hobbs, and an undisclosed local woman is underway today at the Thunder Bay District Courthouse.

All three defendants have pled not guilty to the charges against them.

Those charges are for extortion. In the description of the charges laid against the accused include “threats, accusations or menace of disclosing criminal allegations to the police”.

The allegation is that the former Mayor of Thunder Bay a long-time veteran of the Thunder Bay Police Service sought to have an undisclosed individual purchase a house for the victim of a crime as compensation.

The Hobbs’ was initially charged with obstruction of justice as well as extortion, however, the Crown Attorney stated those charges would not be continued.

The former Mayor and his wife are being represented by defence attorney Brian Greenspan.

The trial in Thunder Bay will be presided over by Justice Fletcher Dawson who is not from the city. The trial could last as long as four weeks.
