THUNDER BAY – NEWS – At approximately 07:00 today Thunder Bay Fire Rescue responded to a call of a structure fire on the 100 block of South Empress. On arrival the first arriving crew was met the lone occupant who was outside the residence. Smoke was visible and a second alarm was called. After assessment the crew from the Junot avenue station entered the home with a hand line and quickly extinguished a fire in the kitchen.

The fire caused damage to the kitchen and smoke had spread throughout the home. Paramedics arrived on scene and assessed the patient who was then brought to Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for further assessment.

There were a total of five pumpers and one aerial device on scene manned with a total of 22 fire fighters.

TBFR would like to remind people that when you discover a fire get out and call 911. Do not go back inside the building.
