Michipicoten First Nation is seeking a dynamic and experienced BAND MANAGER

The Michipicoten First Nation (MFN) is an Ojibway First Nation located near Wawa, Ontario on the white sands of Lake Superior (north east shores). The registered membership is approximately 1,100 with 67 members living on reserve. The community boasts a pristine and eco rich environment of unparalleled wilderness beauty, unpolluted waters and an abundance of wildlife, birds and indigenous plants.


Due to a retirement, MFN is hiring a full time Band Manger to join our team.  Reporting to Chief and Council, you oversee all operations of the band including finance, administration and the delivery of band programs and services.  You will ensure that all operations are conducted in a respectful, fair and responsible manner. As a strong, energetic and collaborative leader, you will help this progressive First Nation’s government realize its strategic objectives.


Financial Operations:  Accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, complete and review monthly financial statements, prepare budgets, purchasing and tendering.  Ensure internal financial controls are in place and all operations are in compliance with government financial legislation, policies and procedures.

Human Resources:  Recruit, hire and manage performance of band staff (approximately 10)

Band Programs and Services:  Oversee and evaluate the effectiveness of operations and program delivery in the area of health, education, social services, housing, public works, community economic development and information technology.

Community Development Activities:  Assist with coordination, implementation and evaluation of the community development plan.  Conduct needs assessments, and research potential funding, programs and projects as required.

Band Council Support & Administration:  Attend all Band Council meetings; prepare agenda, information and resources for Band Council.  Maintain and circulate meeting minutes, act as a liaison and facilitate communications between Band Council and Band Members. Represent the Band at local, regional, territorial and national meetings. 


  • Post secondary diploma or degree in Finance, Business and / or Administration
  • Minimum three years Senior Management & Supervisory experience (preferably in a First Nation Organization)
  • Consideration will be given to individuals possessing a combination of an undergraduate degree with similar disciplines, combined with hands on management experience in a similar role
