Sleeping GiantSHUNIAH – The Reeve of Shuniah Township, Maria Harding presented her address to Council and residents of the township this evening as she was inaugurated.

Here is the Inaugural Speech from Reeve Harding:

I am humbled by the trust and confidence that the residents of Shuniah, my peers have shown in me.

As in the past I am pleased and look forward to serve our community, our family as your Reeve.

When elected to Council we have a vision of what we would like to achieve in our term.  The diversity of our community somewhat influences the vision we have, slows down or even halts the process on important issues.

Because of that diversity of our community, we the members of Council must put aside personal ideology and work together on solutions that are fair and acceptable to the community as a whole.

Our staff is a great resource to Council and to the residents of our municipality.

Respect for each other and our staff and volunteers is a must and expected from all of us.

I would like to welcome to Council, Mrs. Wendy Landry.  To Mrs. Blunt, Miss Bishop and Mr. Giardetti – Welcome Back.

As a united Council we will be able to work together for a healthy prosperous, united and peaceful Shuniah.

Vision Statement – A modern and vibrant community with a strong sense of identity located on the picturesque shores of Lake Superior working together to build a safe, clean, friendly and prosperous future.

Mission Statement  – The Municipality of Shuniah is committed to providing the highest quality of life by building a healthy rural and recreational community through the delivery of essential services provided by responsible  leadership, planning and effective management of Municipal resources.
