A two-goal night moved Sidney Crosby into sole possession of sixth place on the NHL’s career points list

Thunder Bay – Hockey Town Update — Sidney Crosby scored twice and moved past Marcel Dionne into sole possession of sixth place on the NHL’s career points list as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 on Saturday.

Crosby now has 1,773 points, made up of 660 goals and 1,113 assists. Dionne finished his career with 1,771. The milestone came during a needed road win for Pittsburgh, which had lost four straight overall and seven straight away from home.

Tommy Novak gave the Penguins control early with goals at 1:52 and 5:10 of the first period. Corey Perry answered for Los Angeles, but Egor Chinakhov restored Pittsburgh’s two-goal lead on the power play before the intermission.

Alex Laferriere made it 3-2 with a power-play goal early in the second. Crosby then scored at 17:13 of the period and added an empty-net goal with 1:16 remaining. Evgeni Malkin assisted on both Crosby goals and finished with three assists, while Kris Letang had two.

Sergei Murashov made 26 saves for his first victory of the season. The Penguins improved to 6-9-2. Los Angeles fell to 5-8-2, and Darcy Kuemper stopped 14 of 18 shots before Pittsburgh’s empty-net goal.

The win does not erase Pittsburgh’s slow start, but it gives the club a result to build on during its road trip. Crosby’s climb also adds another major line to a career that continues to reshape the league record book.
