City Temporarily Closing Pools, Beaches, Activities and Programs

Smokey Skies in Dryden - August 4 2021

Thunder Bay – July 15, 2026 – Due to current smoke conditions and the extremely poor air quality, the City of Thunder Bay is temporarily closing several outdoor activities, programs and facilities, as follows:

  • Live on the Waterfront at Marina Park is cancelled tonight.  Headline performer, Joce Reyome, will offer a limited seating acoustic performance in the lobby at the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium at 7:30pm (doors open at 6:45pm).
  • All outdoor pools and beaches are closed today. Indoor pools are open regular hours. Churchill and Volunteer Pool will be offering twoonie swims for the day.
  • Youth Move at Minnesota Park will be closed this afternoon.
  • Churchill and Volunteer Pool will be offering twoonie swims today from 1pm-5pm (normally they would be 2pm-5pm).
  • Playgrounds sites at Westmount, Gron Morgan, and McKellar schools are closed.  Additional site closures may occur throughout the day.

Additional changes may occur throughout the day due to weather and staffing conditions.

These temporary service changes will remain in place until air quality conditions improve, and normal operations will resume as soon as it is safe to do so.
