Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Stops Rosslyn Road Garage Fire from Spreading Into Home

THUNDER BAY – Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews prevented a residential garage fire from spreading into the main living area of a home on Rosslyn Road on Monday afternoon. All occupants were able to get out safely before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported.

Crews respond to fire in attached garage

Firefighters were called just after 4:30 p.m. on June 24 following multiple reports of a structure fire in the 2000 block of Rosslyn Road.

The first arriving pumper confirmed an active fire involving the attached garage of the home. Firefighters began an aggressive interior attack and were able to stop the flames from extending into the main living space.

The garage sustained significant fire damage. Damage to the rest of the residence was limited because of the quick response and actions of fire crews.

Occupants escape safely

All occupants had evacuated the home before firefighters arrived on scene. There were no reported injuries to residents or emergency responders.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Rosslyn Road closed during emergency response

Rosslyn Road was closed for approximately two hours while crews extinguished the fire and secured the scene.

Fire apparatus and water supply operations temporarily blocked traffic in the area. Thunder Bay Police Service assisted by diverting vehicles around the incident to protect emergency responders and the public.

Fire safety reminder for Thunder Bay households

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is reminding residents to develop and practise a home escape plan with everyone in the household.

In the event of a fire, residents should get out immediately, stay out and call 911 from a safe location.
